| REACH is a co-developer of the First African Kanisa Apartments.
The 59-unit development provides affordable rental housing for low-income
senior citizens. The former Douglass School, built in 1948, was purchased by First
African Baptist Church in 1987. After undergoing extensive renovations
the school became First African Kanisa Apartments. The Douglass School was a source of pride to the residents of Lexington’s
West End before school desegregation occurred. The school that formerly
was attended only by African Americans was closed in 1972. The renovated
apartment complex officially opened in October 1999. Please call (859) 389-9784 for more information. |
